Effective Practice Mentor Schools

Effective Practice Model schools represent an important resource in the school reform effort. A critical element of the S³TAIR Project model is creation of collaborative relationships between validated Effective Practice Model schools and Replication schools that have a need to improve outcomes for students with disabilities. Schools that have achieved Effective Practice Model school status have the opportunity to apply for a grant to support both their collaboration with Regional Facilitators to fully document their practice implementation and to support development of a mentor relationship with a Replication school.

Effective Practice Mentor school grant awards will be made on the basis of a competitive application process. Consideration will be given to the district/school’s plan for collaboration and for the need of models in the area of their validated practice. Regional Facilitators will work with both schools to facilitate the logistics of interaction and the development of the working partnership.

Effective Practice Mentor school grants resulting in beneficial partnerships with Replication schools may be renewed annually for the period of the federal grant as determined by the New York State Education Department.  Currently, thirteen grants have been awarded:

  3. Fulton City School District/J. E. Lanigan Elementary, Positive Behavior Intervention
  4. Galway Central School District/Joseph Henry Elementary School, Literacy
  5. Garden City Union Free School District/Garden City Middle School,Special Education Instruction
  6. Orleans Niagara BOCES/West Elementary School in Niagara Wheatfield, Positive Behavior Intervention
  7. Monroe 2 BOCES/Communication and Social Skills (CaSS) Program, Special Education Instruction
  8. Penn Yan Central School District/Penn Yan Elementary School, Literacy
  9. Sandy Creek Central School District/Sandy Creek Elementary School, Literacy
  10. Saranac Central School District/Morrisonville Elementary School,Literacy, Positive Behavior Intervention, & Special Education Instruction
  11. Sachem Central School District/district wide, Literacy
  12. Longwood Central School District/Ridge Elementary School Autism Program, Special Education Instruction
  13. Cohoes City School District/Cohoes Middle School, Positive Behavior Intervention and Special Education Instruction
